Who is this course for?
This course has been designed for personnel who are filling the role of Incident Controller at an incident, including larger and more complex incidents where an Incident Management Team (IMT) is established.
What will you learn?
The course will review the role and responsibilities of being a Controller, but most importantly it will look at key skills you will need to succeed during an incident.
This course will take about 2 hours of your time.
Course content
Working as an Incident Controller Review of the role and responsibilities of the Incident Controller. Appointment and authority for the role. |
Establishing control and coordination Taking or transferring control, establishing a control location, confirming coordination arrangements with other organisations and levels. |
Assessing the situation and determining priorities Gathering information and undertaking risk assessment, determining priorities, developing Controller’s intent and objectives. |
Developing a control structure Creating a structure scaled to suit the incident needs and delegating functional roles. |
Developing and implementing plans Reviewing options analysis, consulting with and updating stakeholders, and approving plans. |
Maintaining control Leading the IMT and the response effort, maintaining safety, monitoring and evaluating progress, reporting, public information and warnings. |
Supporting relief and recovery Planning for response, relief and recovery and ensuring an effective handover to recovery coordinators. |
Concluding and reviewing the incident Scaling down the control structure, ensuring resources and facilities are returned, organising debriefs and evaluating the IMT.
